About Us

Food Works is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization facilitating the development of a regional food economy in Southern Illinois. We believe that a truly enduring approach emphasizes access to good food for everyone, keeps food dollars circulating in local communities, and balances human needs with the health of the air, water and land resources on which all life depends.

In 2010, the Food Works Board of Directors identified key priorities for the organization.

2010-2015 Vision

Food Works envisions a region where:

• Food grown and consumed in southern Illinois is ever-increasing;
• Small-scale farmers have access to education they need and want;
• A diverse group of growers is producing food at a living wage;
• All community residents can access delicious, healthy, fresh, local food for all their meals;
• Residents know the relation between food, the world and our bodies, and are aware of the true cost of food.
